Julie Edsforth is a Seattle-based nonprofit consultant helping individuals, nonprofit organizations and community initiatives create progressive social change that leads to lasting improvements in people’s lives and the world around them.
She provides consulting, coaching, and facilitation services in the following areas: strategy development and planning, executive leadership development, fundraising strategy development, board governance, and organization-wide capacity building. She often works collaboratively on larger projects with Emily Anthony, and in 2017, Julie, Emily , and third partner, Mary Ellen Cunningham, expanded their executive search capacity by forming Clover Search Works. Recognizing that a leadership transition is a moment in the life of a nonprofit when skilled facilitation can have a big impact, they are now able to serve more organizations at that critical and exciting juncture.
Since hanging out her shingle as a nonprofit consultant in 2008, Julie has been lucky to work with 40+ nonprofit organizations in the Pacific Northwest. The cross-functional nature of her consulting practice and her 25+ years of varied experience in the nonprofit sector (as an executive director, social worker, counselor, board member, consultant, philanthropist and community volunteer) means she is holistic in her approach and brings a compassionate and balanced perspective to organizational growth and change management. Her experience enables her to relate firsthand to the challenges and rewards that come with surviving and thriving in a constantly shifting nonprofit environment.
Julie enjoys working with organizations of all shapes and sizes and across all issue areas – it keeps her flexible, perpetually learning, and able to cross-pollinate new ideas, innovations and best practices across sectors. She brings to her work a strong commitment to building an equitable and just world and a belief in the power of working in partnership with diverse groups of people to solve society’s most complex problems.
Julie is the former executive director and one of three founders of Powerful Voices, a Seattle-based nonprofit organization that fosters adolescent girls’ development. Prior to her work in the nonprofit sector, Julie spent time in the high tech industry where she gained business skills that she carefully brings into her nonprofit work. She is a graduate of Whitman College and has a Masters in Social Work from University of Washington.
